Algonac Prairie and Oak Savanna

Algonac Prairie and Oak Savanna is a proposed 200 acre natural area within Algonac State Park. The Algonac area has some of the few remaining tracts of lakeplain prairie and savanna. Lakeplain prairie is one of the rarest and most imperiled ecosystems in the world: of the original 500,000 acres of lakeplain prairie in southeastern Michigan, only 500 acres remain. The site would offer wildflower viewing, hiking, bird watching, outdoor education, hunting, and fishing.
