Please join us for a beautiful paddle through the State Game Area to celebrate River Day!

This year we will be paddling the Black River on Sunday, June 10, 2018.

We will meet at 9:30 at the Beard Road access in Beards Hills. Drop off your kayak at the Beard Road Bridge over the Black River.  There is a paved shoulder to unload your kayak over the guardrail and possibly a volunteer on site to assist you in getting it down to the water.  Quickly park your vehicle to the east in the gravel parking lot on M-136.  After signing the waiver (required), walk the path along the guardrail to the river and your waiting kayak.

We will begin the paddle at 10:00 am, stop for lunch at Woodsong County Park, and then end at Wadhams Bridge.  At Wadhams Bridge, there is a short but steep hill to drag your kayak up to the road, where Blue Water Transit will shuttle us back to our vehicles in Beards Hills.

The whole trip is 8 miles on the Black River and may take about 3.5-4 hours.  Adding time for lunch, the entire trip may take 4-5 hours, depending on the current. The put in and take out are more difficult on this route, but we try to move the yearly paddle around to all parts of the County. This route is longer than most.

At the put in and take out, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department will provide support on the road with patrol cars to slow traffic.

Blueways Bling will be for sale: T-shirts for $10 and Bandanas for $5 at the take out at Wadhams Bridge.
