The St. Clair County Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC) has recently purchased 291 acres of the Bauman Road Farms property in Columbus Township from the Trust for Public Land (TPL), a national non-profit organization, using a $1.4 million Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant.

BMJ Engineers and Surveyors have completed a topographical base map of the four parcels that will be part of the new park. The base map will be used to develop a master plan for the park.

PARC has contracted with Landscape Architect, Pamela Blough, to develop the park master plan. PARC held a public visioning session to get citizen input into the development of Columbus County Park on November 27th 2007 at the Columbus Township Hall.

A second session was held in January of 2008 and in June, the Parks and Recreation Commission formally adopted the Columbus County Park master plan.

Phase 1 construction at Columbus County Park was completed in early 2010. Phase 1 included constructing the main entrance on Bauman Road, a park roadway, a 100 car parking lot, erosion control and drainage improvements, electrical work, a water well and development of a lighted sledding hill.

Plans to construct a park lodge with modern restroom facilities, a picnic pavilion, a meeting room, offices and storage rooms is slated for 2010.

All improvements at Columbus County Park are paid for with St. Clair County Parks and Recreation Millage Funds.

Please note the sledding hill and ice rink at Columbus County Park are open to the public, weather permitting. During the winter months, these amenities may be periodically closed for maintenance, lack of snow or mild temperatures. For current sledding or skating conditions please call 810-989-6960.

The lighted sledding hill is open daily from 8:00am to 7:45pm.
